Riding HolidaysEnjoy a Quality Horse Riding Holiday at the Bitterroot Ranch
Riding toward Castle Rock which dominates the landscape The Fox Family of the Bitterroot Ranch have taken guests on riding holidays high in the remote mountains of Wyoming for nearly 40 years now. We are the only US riding ranch to be approved by the British Horse Society and we have an outstanding riding program, including riding instruction for those who wish to improve their technique, and a broad selection of horses. Our rides go out in every direction through extremely varied terrain with evergreen and aspen forests, wide-open sagebrush plains, breathtaking views of snowcapped mountains and few signs of civilization. The nearest tarmac road is 17 miles away. The Bitterroot is a family working ranch as well as a riding holiday ranch. Our herd of Black Angus grazes on a 60 square mile area in the adjacent national forest during the summer and guests often have the opportunity to help move the cows around the range. The ranch has many different breeds of horses including Quarter Horses, Mustangs, Appaloosas, Percheron crosses and Welsh ponies, but we are particularly proud of the purebred Arabians we raise and train for ranch use.
A trail in rugged country. The terrain is extremely varied and ideal for riding holidays. Rides are kept small; usually six or seven people, and are divided according to skill so that advanced riders are not bored and the less experienced are not pushed too quickly. We take great care to match riders to the appropriate horses and our large herd ensures that your horses will stay fresh throughout the season. This wide-open, unspoiled, almost unknown and beautiful part of the world with a dry, sunny climate is ideal horse country and well suited to memorable riding holidays. A lively trout stream bubbles through the ranch, cascading here and forming tranquil pools there; everywhere it is teaming with cutthroat trout to delight the fly fisherman. Guests also can savor excellent food and wine, enjoy comfortable private accommodations and appreciate a sophisticated international atmosphere. It has a broad appeal for family groups.
