Horse Training Clinics in Wyoming
TTEAM with Linda Tellington-Jones
The Tellington Touch Equine Awareness Method (TTEAM) is a way of training, healing and overcoming common resistances in horses.
TTEAM offers a training approach that encourages optimal performance and health and presents solutions to common behavioral and physical problems. TTEAM horses demonstrate marked improvement in athletic skills and increased willingness and ability to perform. Not only does the horse benefit, but also a deeper rapport grows between horse and rider because of increased understanding and more effective communication.
In this hands-on training participants will learn the three phases of TTEAM: the Tellington-Touch, Learning Exercises from the ground, and an introduction to the TTEAM applications to riding. The Bitterroot Ranch setting offers a unique experience to work with untrained ranch bred Arabs who will be integrated into the ranch's exceptional string of saddle horses.
This approach to training emphasizes the development of trust and partnership between horse and rider. During this week, participants will have the opportunity to school young horses who are quiet but have had very little handling. Learn the TTEAM techniques to teach horses how to lead through all of the exercises which comprise "Playground for Higher Learning" with plastic, labyrinth, pick-up-sticks, and trotting poles. Teach them to pick up their feet and stand quietly for grooming and saddling. The techniques teach a gentle, safe way to train young horses. The horses, in turn, learn to accept a rider without bucking or fear. These fundamental skills can be applied to horses of all ages. For over 20 years this annual event has attracted horse people of all levels, from experienced competitors to new-comers to the horse world. Each participant will work with horses appropriate, interesting, and safe for their individual level of experience.
This clinic is not necessarily geared to the professional horse person, but rather to the many horse owners and horse lovers who want to increase their communication skills with these animals. It is an effective, non-confrontational technique, particularly useful when starting a young horse. This year's clinic will be taught by Linda. This is one of the few clinics taught by Linda in the U.S.
SUNDAY: Arrive at the Bitterroot Ranch in the afternoon.
MONDAY: Meet the 4 year-old Arabs who will be your partners for the week. Since being halter broken as weanlings, they have had very little handling other than worming and farrier visits. Groom the horses and discover where they do and do not like to be touched. Learn the techniques used in the world-renowned TTouch program, while practicing your newfound skills on the young horses. In bringing them to a greater awareness of their bodies, you become profoundly conscious of the effects your body language and movement have on the horses. Included in today's session are: lowering the head, working the mouth, exploring the body, tail work and leg exercises.
TUESDAY: Today you will practice leading positions and introduce the horses to the wand and lead chain. Exercises over poles on the ground and through a labyrinth encourage the horses to focus.
WEDNESDAY: Learn about ground driving, first from the chest and then with a second line attached to the halter. Work with plastic, persuading the horses to walk on it and under it, while learning to trust their handlers.
THURSDAY: Preparations for saddling include belly lifts and a body wrap. The saddle pad, surcingle, breast collar and girth are introduced and the horses continue ground driving.
FRIDAY: The horses are saddled and walk between people standing above them (on hay bales) at the horse's eye level. When they are comfortable, the horses are stopped between the bales where TTouches are done.
SATURDAY: Continue ground driving and work between the bales. If the horse is ready, it will be quietly backed and take the first steps with a rider.
SUNDAY: Departure after breakfast.
A mid-week trail ride gives participants a chance to relax and enjoy the magnificent lands encompassing the Bitterroot. Many of the trail horses are graduates of previous years' clinics.
"This was a remarkable experience. I gained a deep appreciation for the work done by Linda Tellington Jones and an even deeper appreciation for the transformational effect it had on both the horses and me. We ended the week as a "true team." I can't wait to get to work on my own young mare."

Through demonstrations, lectures and exercises you will experience first hand how all contact with your horse; your intentions, your body language, your energy and more, form a communication system. "This has been one of the most magical and mystical weeks, filled with so many new and enlightening experiences."
- Rebecca, United Kingdom
SUNDAY: Arrive at the Bitterroot Ranch between 2 and 5 pm.
MONDAY: Learning the Horse's Language. On the first day you work with your horse at liberty, uncovering his/her personality, character traits and learning style, and discover the language of the horse through body language, energy and interspecies communication. By using this safe and effective training tool you will create a foundation for both you and your horse that can be taken to the arena, the trail or virtually anywhere. To understand our horses healing responses, you need to understand their gestures first.
TUESDAY: T.L.C. - Trust-Based Leadership and Compassionate Communication. You will examine some of the most important elements in creating a trust-based relationship with your horse in-hand and getting the results you've always wanted but have not been able to consistently achieve. Set yourself up for success as you learn relaxation exercises, boundaries & appropriate leadership skills to keep you safe during a Reiki - energy healing for horses - session. These same exercises create a space for the horses to heal and overcome behavioral "problems".
WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY: The Art of Healing. Next you will go on a comprehensive journey into one of the most popular healing arts in the world today. Originally developed in the early 20th century, Reiki, translated from Japanese as "Universal Life Force", is already used in clinics, private practices and hospitals around the globe.
With this holistic, non-invasive style of energy healing you can:
- Alleviate stress, fears, worry and frustrations
- Eliminate chronic physical, mental & emotional conditions
- Assist the body in cleansing different types of toxins
- Help break unwanted habits or conditions like smoking, overeating and alcoholism
- Work on anything from your pets, houseplants and even your computer!
Over 2 days you will discover exactly what Reiki is, how to use it to heal yourself and others through hands-on and distance healing and become certified as a Reiki Level I & II Practitioner.
FRIDAY: Healing Horses. Horses, and animals in general, are great clients for energy work because they have no preconceived notions or skepticism that often get in the way of human receptivity. An animal is simply present to the experience. If it likes it, it likes it and if it doesn't it leaves: Simple as that. Horses in particular create a space for you to learn the language of energy and their responses and acceptance is reflected instantly. Anna will share her personal discoveries and how she developed Reiki for Horses.
On the last day you will learn how to apply your newfound art to your horses and other animal companions. Anna will cover how to:
- Correctly ask for "permission" from your animal companions
- Set up a safe Reiki session
- Scan your horse's body, visually & energetically
- Use proper Reiki hand positions on your horse
- Notice your horse's registers
- Locate and balance chakras
- Use the pendulum
- Deepen your understanding of the language of the horse
- Recognize the duration of sessions
- Close a Reiki session
- Take advantage of the amazing power of Love Lessons
SATURDAY: Picnic trail ride into the National Forest or relax on the grounds and practice your new Reiki skills.
SUNDAY: Departure after breakfast.
"The Reiki workshop opened my eyes, my mind, my heart to a deeper level of communication and I am grateful for the experience. I know it is the beginning of a new path - one I look forward to taking." - Ruth, New York
