Wyoming Dude Ranch Offering Outstanding Horseback Riding Vacations

Riding at the Bitterroot Ranch

The Bitterroot Dude Ranch has the horses and terrain to give you an exciting horseback riding vacation in Wyoming. (We now require hardhats)

Take a video tour of the ranch and hear what our guests have to say about their stay.

Listen to Bayard Fox, your host at the Bitterroot Ranch, describe a horseback riding vacation on our Wyoming dude ranch.

You can enjoy some of the best and most diverse horseback riding in North America at the Bitterroot Ranch in Wyoming. Located in a remote valley bordering the Shoshone National Forest, 50 miles of unspoiled, mountainous wilderness separate the ranch from Yellowstone Park. Perpetually snow capped mountains are always in view.

The broad range of riding activities includes lessons with certified instructors to intermediate level, a cross country course for experienced riders, team sorting, herding cows on our grazing allotment in the national forest, cattle drives, roundups,  pack trips and trail rides. The ranch hosts clinics with world renowned clinicians Linda Tellington-Jones and Donna Snyder-Smith.

Excellent fly fishing in our private stream and superior cuisine and wine contribute to a more sophisticated ambience than that at many dude ranches. We have an international clientele.

Few dude ranches share our philosophies and passion for riding. Your hosts explore the world with our other company, Equitours Horseback Riding Vacations. If you desire the riding vacation of a lifetime, the Bitterroot could be the perfect match. Please email bitterrootranch@wyoming.com or call now on 800-545-0019 to plan a holiday here.

"The Bitterroot has done an outstanding job of creating a unique riding program with great horses in a truly beautiful location."
-- David Vogt, Arkansas

Horses and Other Animals

The Bitterroot is not a typical dude ranch. We focus on providing our guests with a quality riding vacation and are especially proud of our Arabian horses, many of which have been raised and trained on the ranch. The horses are our primary focus, followed by the cattle, but this is also a family farm with sheep, llamas, ducks, geese, chickens, peacocks, dogs and cats. Children love the lambs and foals.

"The complex life at the Bitterroot wove a rich web for me to hone my riding skills, keeping my interest and challenging me but never threatening me."
-- Pam White, Massachusetts

Cross country jumping is an option for experienced riders, few dude ranches offer this activity.

Rounding up cattle in the Shoshone National Forest is an exciting adventure. Guests can get a taste of what the life of a cowboy is like.

Working Cattle Ranch

The Bitterroot is a family run working ranch and during your vacation you will have frequent opportunities to help drive cattle, which graze in the adjacent national forest during the summer. You can hone your skills during the weekly team sorting competition. Working cattle on horseback can give new meaning to the partnership between horse and rider adding another dimension to your riding holiday.
